Dungeon Crawl is on hold for now. The update server has been taken off line, so don't attempt to update the game until further notice.

DC has not been cancelled. In fact, it is very much the game I want to do right now. It's just going to be a while before we get far enough along with Enzyme before I can progress any further (or really, to be honest, to even get back to where we were).

DC will be the "game" part of the Enzyme Engine. Enzyme is being built as a general purpose engine, and it will make a clear distinction between the engine part and the game part (so that in theory, any first or third person style game could be plugged into it). But I firmly believe that a really good engine needs a really good game to go along with it, if for no other reason than to put the engine through it's paces in a real world scenario.

Good things are coming. Exciting things. Stay tuned...

So the "On Hold" status is now removed. Work has resumed.

Although to be honest I suppose there won't really be much news here for a little while. What I am working on now is not really something I can show you guys, as it would involve too many spoilers (I'm basically writing the plot, drawing maps, writing character bios, putting down a lot of technical details, and all the other stuff that goes into a Design Document).

The DD will include a comprehensive Milestone list, and I may end up posting that on the site. Once I get into production, I will, of course, have screenshots, video, news posts, and whatnot. You know, the sort of stuff you constantly get from me on a regular basis :)

But for right now, I can't really give you very much. The DD will take a while. And I'm still in the process of learning the ins-and-outs of Unity, which is also taking up quite a bit of my free time.

I think I have all the tools I need to write this game. Unity, MSVC, Maya, Photoshop, Soundbooth, UVPro, Subversion, and so forth. The only real aspect that worries me right now is the voice acting. It's hard to hire voice actors with zero budget. Maybe I can coerce some of my friends and family into doing it (although some of the parts are pretty involved). That's one area I am going to have to figure out.

This is an ambitious project, to be sure. But with a realistic milestone list, I think it is certainly doable. There's nothing on the todo list I haven't delved into before at some level. Some of them I'm an expert in (coding and scripting), others I'm a novice (rigging and animation), most I'm somewhere in between. It's really just the scale of the project that's a bit intimidating :)
